Who Needs Cardiac Services?
Cardiac care involves the medical care and surgical treatment for problems that affect the heart, arteries and blood vessels. There are a wide range of heart conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart attack, heart muscle disease, arrhythmias, and congenital defects, to name a few. The symptoms of any heart issue can vary, depending on your age and other factors. There are some similar warning signs, including:
- Shortness of breath or trouble breathing when resting or during mild physical activity
- Irregular heartbeats or palpitations
- Frequent nausea or dizziness
- Discomfort, pressure, heaviness, or pain in the chest, arm, or below the breastbone
- Extreme weakness or anxiety
Also, consider some of the factors that could increase your risk for cardiac issues:
- High LDL (bad) cholesterol and low HDL (good) cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Physical inactivity
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Uncontrolled stress and anger
- Family history of heart disease
If you have any of these risk factors, along with some of the symptoms that could signal a potential heart problem, you should consult a cardiologist as soon as possible. If any of these symptoms are ongoing or come suddenly, you should call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately.
Who Needs Vascular Services?
Vascular care involves the medical management and surgical treatment of problems affecting circulation outside the heart and brain, including the legs, arms, neck and kidneys. When blockages occur, vascular surgeons can restore normal blood flow. Please contact us if you are interested in the following services:
- Diagnostic & Interventional Cardiology Services

Lakeview Regional Medical Center is the first hospital on the Northshore to treat carotid artery disease and help prevent future strokes using a new procedure called TransCarotid Artery Revascularization, or TCAR. TCAR (tee-kahr) is a clinically proven, minimally invasive and safe approach for high-surgical risk patients who need carotid artery treatment.
Heart Attack Symptoms
Decoding the pain in your chest can be challenging. Chest pain caused by a heart attack can resemble discomfort or pressure and can even feel like fullness, heartburn or indigestion. It can be intense or mild, and can last for more than a few minutes or it might even go away and come back. And every heart attack is different, so if you’ve had one in the past, another one may not feel the same. Other symptoms to be aware of include:
- Racing pulse. Your heart might pound even when you are at rest or might not stop racing after you’ve been active
- Pain in one or both arms
- Pain in your jaw or possibly in your back, shoulders, neck or upper part of the stomach
- Nausea or vomiting
- Sweating or cold sweat
- Feeling unusually tired for no reason, sometimes for days (especially for women)
- Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting
Cardiac Fast-Track Emergency Services
If you think you may be experiencing a cardiac emergency, come to our Emergency Room immediately. You will be fast-tracked as soon as you arrive, whether it’s by ambulance or through the emergency entrance. Our Heart Center team works with the emergency room doctors to help diagnose your symptoms, suggest treatment options, and transfer you directly into the appropriate care program, as needed.

Care Assure is Lakeview Regional Medical Center’s commitment to excellence in follow-up care for patients. Clinically trained Nurse Navigators support patients after discharge from the hospital through wellness coaching, answering questions, and facilitating follow-up appointments. This program improves the medical management of complex diseases, such as cardiac and vascular diseases, and enhances the continuity of care while also streamlining the intervention process. As the point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers, the Nurse Navigators also serve to provide resources and assistance with accessing clinical and supportive care services.
Structural heart program in Covington
The cardiologists at Lakeview Regional Medical Center use the latest techniques to repair structural heart abnormalities and monitor your long-term health after treatment. Structural heart conditions are problems that occur within the heart's tissues or valves. They can occur at birth (congenital abnormality) or later in life, and, once diagnosed, should be addressed quickly by a specialist in structural heart care.
Patients can be referred to the Structural Heart Center by their primary care physician or cardiologist. Our team works with referring physicians to provide individualized care that caters to every patient’s medical history and personalized risk factors. We will identify the best treatment option that corrects the problem and prioritizes your future quality of life.
Additional Services and Treatments
We have a network of facilities at Lakeview Regional Medical Center, all designed to meet the needs of different cardiac conditions. Patients with irregular heart rhythms are seen in our Arrhythmia Institute, where physicians implant pacemakers and defibrillators. The electrophysiology laboratory uses the latest biplane technology, which provides greater detail and reliability. This means our physicians have a high-quality image with the lowest radiation output. The Surgical Institute features two suites dedicated to cardiovascular patients. The Cardiovascular ICU/SCU/Telemetry units offer the best in post-operative care. Cardiac Rehabilitation Services are available to assist patients in their continued recovery following a cardiac illness or procedure. Our team is dedicated to making your recovery from any cardiac incident as stress-free as possible. We will work with you and your team of physicians to get your heart healthier as soon as possible.
