Lakeview Regional Medical Center is proud to announce the grand opening of the new location of its Behavioral Health Center on Thursday, April 24, located on the hospital campus at 95 Judge Tanner Blvd. in Covington. A. Majid Khan, MD will serve as the Medical Director. “The new Behavioral Health Center location will result in more comprehensive and efficient care for patients, and their families, in need of mental and medical health care,” states Dr. Khan. “Having the Behavioral Health Center on the hospital campus provides a consolidated program for all departments.”
The Lakeview Regional Behavioral Health Center specializes in the care and well being of older adults. The program is designed to offer the most up-to-date inpatient psychiatric treatment focusing on the emotional and medical needs of each individual. This unique program was developed to assist individuals in dealing with grief, physical disabilities, emotional problems or later life issues that interfere with daily activities and healthy relationships.. Typical warning signs that should prompt behavioral health treatment include: alzheimer’s disease, mood disorder, excessive worry, disorientation, confusion, distressing thoughts, mood swings, thoughts of harming yourself or others, refusing medications, inability to sleep, depression, anger outbursts, poor self-care, wandering, aggression, increased agitation and anxiety.
Dr. Khan completed his psychiatric training at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and Ochsner Medical Center, having started at Charity Hospital before Katrina. He has served as Medical Director of Acute Inpatient Psychiatric facilities, Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs in the private sector. He has also provided consulting for the Department of Corrections for more than two years. He has been on faculty as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry with the LSU Department of Psychiatry in New Orleans and was most recently a Unit Director at Greenbrier Hospital in Covington. Dr. Khan also co-founded Axis One Behavioral Solutions. He is a member of the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association and the American TeleMedicine Association.
Lakeview Regional Behavioral Health Center offers the following benefits: new 24-bed, inpatient unit with all private rooms; treatment in a dedicated setting for adults 55 years and older; individualized plan of care; intensive inpatient program—an active treatment program that may include group, individual, and recreational therapies, medication management, and education; assistance with discharge planning; and rehabilitative care—the patient’s physical needs are integrated into treatment. Patients are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Referrals are accepted after an evaluation by a licensed professional deems a patient appropriate for admission.
