Diagnosis & Prenatal Testing
Lakeview Regional Medical Center uses advanced testing to detect any issues or problems. These tests could include:
Prenatal screenings for the mother:
- Blood pressure
- Blood tests for type and Rh factor
- Microbiological examinations for infections
- Psychological Aspects of Screening
- Urine tests
Prenatal screenings for the baby:
- Chorionic Villi Screening (CVS – Transabdominal)
- Chorionic Villi Screening (CVS – Transcervical)
- Maternal Serum Alpha-Fetoprotein (MSAFP)
- Non-stress Test (NST)/Biophysical Profile (BPP)
- Nuchal Translucency (NT)
- Percutaneous Umbilical Blood Sampling
- Ultrasound
Ultrasound screenings are used to detect:
- Number of babies
- Age of the baby
- Size and rate of growth
- Heart rate, breathing, position and movement
- Location of the placenta
- Amount of amniotic fluid present
- Certain types of birth defects (heart, head, chest, spine, limbs)
- Blood flow
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Causes of bleeding or pain
